The oldest community inside Boston, Massachusetts, U.S. Initially referred to as Mishawum by Native Americans, Charlestown is situated upon a peninsula that is north of the Charles River, across from Boston’s downtown area, and additionally adjoins the banks of Boston Harbor and the Mystic River on the north side of the city. In 1629, Charlestown was laid out by Thomas Graves, engineer and one of its earliest settlers. Originally, it was a separate town and original capital of Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Charlestown translated its historical roots within a thriving Twenty-first Century community. As the home to such important landmarks as the Navy Yard, Bunker Hill Monument and the U.S.S. Constitution, the neighborhood’s allure enticed a fresh generation of young professionals and immigrants to join its Irish-American population. Residents, old and new, frequent the establishments and restaurants in the area in City Square and along Main Street.
